Demarai Gray warns against Everton ‘complacency’ in Watford clash

Everton winger Demarai Gray has warned his teammates to avoid complacency in their remaining matches as the Toffees look to avoid relegation.

Frank Lampard’s side face already relegated Watford at Vicarage Road looking to make it three league wins on the bounce.

However, wide man Gray has warned of complacency ahead of facing a Watford side who have been crippled by injuries of late.

Talking to EvertonTV, Gray said: “Complacency is one thing we can’t have.

“There’s a long way to go and we’ve got to go to the end.”

Gray added: “We know, quality-wise, the [standard of] players we have in the team, but it is about mentality.”

Gray spot on

Gray’s evaluation of Everton’s situation is spot on.

Lampard’s side have dragged themselves out of a dire situation but they still have a huge amount of work to do.

It’s possible that Leeds or Burnley pick up a win or two between now and then end of the season.

Everton will not want to be in a position where they have to pick up a result at the Emirates on the final day against Arsenal.

The fixture at Watford and the home fixtures against Brentford and Crystal Palace have to be the priority for the Toffees.

After a good run of form Everton will be fancied at Vicarage Road, however, if they feel that just turning up will get the result, then they will be back in trouble.

Everton’s good form has been based on a togetherness and work ethic.

If they ditch these principles as a result of potentially weaker opposition, they could well come unstuck to Roy Hodgson’s side.
