Sam Allardyce gushes over ‘world class’ Jordan Pickford, makes Everton prediction v Watford

Sam Allardyce has heaped praise on Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford for his ‘absolutely world class’ performances in recent games.

The Toffees were able to escape the relegation zone with a massive 2-1 win over Leicester at the weekend, as Pickford made some excellent saves once again to keep his side in the game.

Now former boss Allardyce, speaking to talkSPORT’s breakfast show [May 10], says he is due a lot of credit for his influence on the results and believes that a win over Watford would they’re ‘nearly there’.

“This time around Frank’s pulled it off,” he said. “Two fantastic wins and they have to give a big thanks to Jordan Pickford who I know extremely well. Made his debut at Sunderland when I was there, worked with him at Everton.

“He has been the hero for Everton with the saves he’s made in the last few games. They’ve just been at the right time and absolutely world-class and outstanding. I think that’s the big reason why Everton have got the points in the bag.

“I think if they win at Watford now, they’re nearly there. Everybody will expect them to beat Watford but it won’t be that easy. But you’ve got to fancy them.”

They say that when all the chips are down, it’s the biggest and best players who step to the fore and Pickford has certainly done that for us over recent months.

The England number one has been outstanding, even when results didn’t go our way, and has been a huge reason as to why the Toffees didn’t fall even further behind in their battle against the drop.

Now they’ve started doing the business at the other end of the pitch and his saves are earning the club more points, which has seen them given the opportunity to move four points clear of Burnley and Leeds with a win against Watford.

The Hornets have already been relegated and have lost their last 11 home games in a row, but the blues must be at their best and most potent to take advantage of that and get the win they crave.

If they do get a positive result, you can bet your bottom dollar that Pickford will have a say in it once again.
