Everton boss Frank Lampard aims dig at Leeds United as Mason Mount scores for Chelsea

Everton manager Frank Lampard was delighted with Mason Mount scoring for Chelsea in their 3-0 win at Leeds United on Wednesday night.

Lampard and Mount aren’t the most popular of characters at Elland Road due to the whole Derby and Leeds “spygate” saga and the Rams’ eventual play-off win against the Yorkshire club.

Mount scored against Leeds in Chelsea’s win and celebrated in front of the home fans in the stadium.

Everton are battling with Leeds to avoid relegation and Lampard was pleased to see his former player shining for Chelsea.

“It was useful [that he scored at Leeds],” said Lampard, as shown in a video clip on the beIN SPORTS Twitter account on 11 May.

“I’ll send him a message of thanks later.

“I mean, those things are out of your hands but Mason’s a fantastic player and I’m pleased he’s getting those numbers because he’s a player of such a high level.

“Chelsea did us a favour getting that result but as I say, we have to make sure we do our bit to get us over the line.”

Great night

While it was only a point we won at Vicarage Road, it’s a point that will do more for us than the two points dropped will do for the other teams in the relegation battle.

Leeds have just two games left. Everton have three games, as do Burnley.

However, Leeds’ goal difference is awful and one of Burnley’s final three games is a clash against Tottenham this weekend with them chasing the top four.

Mount has done his former manager a massive favour by scoring against Leeds.

However, it was a routine win for a Chelsea side who played most of the game against 10 men as Daniel James was sent off before the half-hour mark for a dangerous tackle.

Leeds can add him to the growing list of players who won’t play again this season with Luke Ayling, Stuart Dallas and Adam Forshaw among those already on it.

From our point of view, Leeds look as though they’re done and dusted.

Burnley may have the toughest remaining fixtures but they have that extra game, they’re not in as bad form and they have their key players available.
