Everton must sell Yerry Mina after latest injury update

Frank Lampard has confirmed on Tuesday (10 May) that Everton defender Yerry Mina will be out for the next few games.

The news has come as a crushing blow, although not unexpected, as Mina produced some top-notch performances since returning from injury.

Lampard has made it clear that Mina won’t return until the final game of the season, as relayed by Sky Sports journalist, Alan Myers.

Patrick Boyland of The Atheltic reported (6 May) last week that there’ll be a decision to make on Mina in the summer.

This is really frustrating for any manager. Mina has only recently returned to full fitness, and he is now out at a crucial juncture of the season, where every point is massive for the club.

Mina was simply superb against Chelsea. Don Hutchison praised him on Twitter as “outstanding” after his brilliant performance in the 1-0 win against Chelsea.

In the summer transfer window, irrespective of where Everton finish, a massive rebuilding work needs to be done.

Bolstering the defence could be a priority, and Mina should be nowhere near to the first team.

Yes, he is a leader at the back.

Yes, he is arguably the best centre-back at the club.

With him on the side, the Toffees tend to perform better.

But, there’s a limit to which you can take a gamble. With Mina, it’s impossible.

You can sympathize with his chronic injuries, but the club can’t hold on to players purely based on emotions.

Lampard needs to bring players whom he can trust. Mina can’t be trusted.

You cannot form a game plan with Mina being the central focal point of your attack.

It has reached a stage where you feel pity for him. He is such a brilliant defender, but the Toffees have hardly benefitted from him.

His future at Goodison Park is as good as over.

In other Everton news, Martin Keown says that Everton must respond to a “tremendous body blow” in their “phenomenal” relegation war.
