Kevin Campbell expects Everton win v Watford, shares difference in recent weeks

Kevin Campbell expects Everton to pick up a win against Watford on Wednesday [May 11] and has shared what’s changed to help their results.

The Toffees picked up consecutive wins for the first time since the start of September with wins over Chelsea and Leicester recently, to drag themselves out of the relegation zone with a game in hand.

Now they head to Watford to try and increase that gap to four points and Campbell told talkSPORT [May 11, 9:38am] that the reason they’ve started to get results is because the players are finally listening to Frank Lampard.

“You know about momentum and Everton do have momentum, but the key is you’ve got to do the business,” he said.

“I expect Everton to win tonight, you don’t know what you’re going to get from Watford but Evertonians are going to be travelling down there in the droves tonight because they, for them and for me, this is a real key game.

“I think the difference has been the team has actually listened to the plan that Frank Lampard has and stuck to it. At home he’s had a decent record, in fact a good record. But away from home they’ve made crazy mistakes.

“You saw another crazy mistake at Leicester, but generally the team over the last couple of games have defended properly and when the back four have been breached, Jordan Pickford has been absolutely outstanding.

“If you give yourself a chance to win these games you’re going to win some of them and that’s what I believe they’ve done.”

Finally

Whatever the reason is, Goodison Park is just delighted that it’s finally clicked for the team and they’ve started picking up much needed points.

After going months without a win away from home, they are now looking to win two on the bounce by beating a team that have lost their last 11 home games consecutively.

But complacency is the enemy of progress and the team simply can’t go into the game thinking they’ve already won just because the Hornets are already relegated.

Lampard has been insistent that he won’t allow the team to fall away from their standards and knows the job isn’t done until they’re mathematically safe.

But a win here will undoubtedly put them in a brilliant position to avoid the drop, and could even mean they can seal their status before the end of the season to give the fans a chance to enjoy the final few games.
