Emmanuel Petit tells Arsenal not to sign Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin

World Cup-winning French midfielder Emmanuel Petit believes that his former club Arsenal must make a move for AS Roma’s Tammy Abraham ahead of Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

The Gunners will be in the market in the summer transfer window, looking to sign a striker to replace Eddie Nketiah and Alexandre Lacazette.

Petit, while talking to Goal, stated that both strikers are similar in nature but the former Chelsea man has proven his class outside England which makes him an ideal fit for the North London-based club.

“They are very physical in the penalty area, with heading, and they will take two opponents all of the time,” he said.

“Between the two, Abraham and Calvert-Lewin, they are very good young players, very interesting prospects for the future.

“But the fact that Abraham left Chelsea and what he is doing with Roma – he is not far from winning a European cup and is one of the best scorers in Italy – who could have predicted that last season when he left?

“If you bring him back to England, especially in London, he will have the feeling of revenge – which is very important to find, that extra motivation. I would say take Tammy Abraham.”

Interesting words

Those words will please Everton fans as they would not want to see their star striker leave the club in the summer transfer window.

The England international has been with the club since the summer of 2016 when he made a move from Sheffield United in a deal worth £1.62 million.

Since then, Calvert-Lewin has represented the Merseyside club in 188 matches in all competitions, scoring 56 times and providing 17 assists.

In the ongoing campaign, the Sheffield-born striker has played 15 times for his current club where he scored on just four occasions.

Calvert-Lewin has been heavily linked with a move away from the Goodison Park, with Newcastle United and West Ham also reportedly interested in making a move for the 25-year-old.

The tall striker has a contract with Everton till the summer of 2025 and therefore, it will be interesting to see whether the club will let go of their prized asset in the summer.

In other Everton news, Jaap Stam has hinted at whether Donny van de Beek will get more game time at Manchester United next season or if he’s on his way out of Olf Trafford.
