View: Frank Lampard must not play Everton ace Dominic Calvert-Lewin v Brentford

Frank Lampard must not play – or at least start – Dominic Calvert-Lewin on Sunday [May 15] as Everton host Brentford at Goodison Park.

The England international came on with absolutely no impact whatsoever in the Blues’ stalemate against the Hornets last time out.

Injuries have massively hindered his season with the striker without a start since April and now isn’t the time to bring him back into the fold.

There is far too much pressure on getting results and maintaining the momentum and the former Sheffield man didn’t look up to the task in his midweek cameo.

Richarlison has been doing a great job up front for the Toffees and you can see why it is his favoured position – he has been instrumental in leading the attack.

Lampard can’t afford to change a winning system with three games left to play and it being absolutely crucial that the Merseysiders put as much distance between them, Burnley and Leeds as possible.

Crunch time.

It doesn’t seem as intense with Everton out of the relegation zone and performing the best out of their relegation rivals but things can change awfully quick.

Just ask Leeds who were themselves in a similar position and a mere matter of a few games later find themselves on the brink of relegation.

The Blues sit two points above Burnley and the Whites with three games still left to play.  – which is more than enough to see them drop back down to 18th

Lampard and the players have to remain laser-focused on the games ahead and build on the momentum gained of late.

The next two games against Brentford and Crystal Palace at home will be season-defining. Win those two and the Toffees will most likely be home and dry.

Admittedly, their away form has been much better recently but the last thing Lampard needs is to go to the Emirates on the last day of the season and need a result.

Especially with Arsenal desperate for results after their loss against Tottenham on Thursday night [May 12] in their fight for the top four.

In other Everton news, Martin Keown says that Everton must respond to a “tremendous body blow” in their “phenomenal” relegation war.
