Last Everton chance looming for Tom Davies after latest injury news

Everton welcome Brentford to Goodison Park on Sunday (15 May) knowing that they could secure their Premier League survival should results go their way.

Frank Lampard has suddenly turned things around on Merseyside having looked like the odds on favourites to join Watford and Norwich in the bottom three at the end of the season.

But all of sudden, seven points from three games has seen the Toffees surge above rivals Burnley and Leeds United and the performances of Fabian Delph in the midfield has been a huge help.

Unfortunately, though, the Englishman has been ruled out of the weekend’s visit of Thomas Frank’s Bees – as Lampard confirmed in his press conference on Friday (13 May) – so a replacement is needed.

Allan came on in Everton’s last game away at Watford but the Brazilian looks destined to be heading for the exit door in the summer and Lampard needs to start with some forward-thinking now they have the upper hand in the fight for survival.

There is, however, one player who not only has the ability to play a similar role to Delph but also the affinity of being an academy product of the football club.

Tom Davies might have only played five times this season due to severe injury problems but he is finally back in the squad and ready to make his mark.

He is about to enter the last year of his contract with his boyhood club and if it were expiring this summer, he might already be on his way but he now has his last chance to impress before a decision on his future is made.

He now has to try and convince the boss to put his faith in him and then repay that trust with a terrier-like midfield performance that Delph had mastered before his slight injury.

In other Everton news, Asmir Begovic is reportedly set to have his contract extended at Goodison Park despite playing just two games in the league this season.
