Everton player ratings v Brentford: Richarlison superb, Branthwaite disaster
Everton suffered a big blow in the race for survival after suffering a 3-2 defeat against Brentford in the Premier League on Sunday at Goodison Park (15 May).
Dominic Calvert-Lewin scored the opening goal for the Toffees, but moments later Jarrad Branthwaite was rightly sent off. An own goal from Seamus Coleman levelled the tie, but Richarlison scored from the spot to give his side a 2-1 lead.
In the second half, two quick goals from Yoane Wissa and Rico Henry resulted in a dramatic turnaround.

Here, Goodison News has rated the players out of 10 for their performances against Brentford:
Jordan Pickford – 7
He was at no fault for the first goal. In the second half he made yet another point-blank save. His long direct ball also resulted in the goal for Richarlison.
Jarrad Branthwaite – 1
With Michael Keane absent, the youngster was brought into the side. But he made a horrible challenge and was adjudged to have brought down Ivan Toney as the last man.
It wasn’t intentional but that changed the complexion of the game. In a game of this magnitude, this naivety is unforgivable.
Mason Holgate – 6
He looked nervy right from the start. Bryan Mbeumo is pulled back by him down by the corner flag resulting in a dangerous free-kick. In the second half, he made a brilliant block on the goal line with a header from Eriksen.
Alex Iwobi – 8
Another strong performance from him. After the sending off, he played at right-back. It did really well to clean up the mess after Mason Holgate missed his attempted clearance. It was solid defending by Iwobi otherwise Mathias Jensen could have been in.
Seamus Coleman 3
Poor from the skipper. Yoane Wissa’s powerful strike inside the box took a deflection leaving Pickford no chance of saving that. Apart from making one or two diving clearances, there was very little from the highly experienced defender.

Vitalli Mykolenko – 7
The left-back did a fantastic defending job after the sending off. Still, tried to get forward at every opportunity. However, he could not exert enough influence in the game going forward, but did really well to keep as tight as possible at the back. Made a brilliant sliding interception in the second half.
Abdoulaye Doucoure – 5
More involved in defensive duties and tried to keep things simple, but once again, there was little from him. That energy from him that we saw in the first half of the season is missing once again. Got a brilliant chance to score, but could only direct his header on target.
Andre Gomes – 6
Tidy in midfield and he was the most creative player on the pitch. Tried a long-range effort on goal, and managed to hit the target. Showed brilliant energy in the middle of the park.
Anthony Gordon – 7
He was lively again in the first half and whipped in a delicious cross from which Calvert-Lewin scored. In the second half, he was more involved with defending and did really well. However, he was at fault for the third goal, where he failed to mark Henry properly.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin – 8
The goal was given to him after the ball brushed off his thighs and took the final touch. He played a part in the second goal by providing a glancing header for Richarlison.
Richarlison – 9
The Brazilian was simply magnificent in the opening 45 minutes. He scored from a penalty and looked a menace throughout. He toiled selflessly in the second half and tried to create something out of nothing, although most of the time he was left chasing shadows.
Substitution
Demarai Gray (on for Gordon, 71 min) – NA
Jonjoe Kenny (on for Gomes, 71 min) – NA
Salomon Rondon (on for Coleman, 83rd min) – 0
Picked up a red card for a foul. What was he thinking actually? Absolute disgrace.
In other Everton news, the Toffees are keen to sign this Derby Country attacker in the summer.
