Alex Shaw absolutely stunned that Everton are in a relegation battle

Everton being in a relegation battle is the equivalent of Leicester winning the Premier League according to journalist Alex Shaw, who labelled it ‘nonsensical’.

The Toffees failed to secure their Premier League safety on Sunday when they were beaten 3-2 by Brentford at Goodison Park, with Jarrad Branthwaite and Salomon Rondon being sent off.

But after the game ESPN journalist Shaw took to his personal Twitter account to share that the club’s situation was ‘blowing my mind’ and thinks there are at least 5-10 teams worse than them.

“Honestly, Everton are blowing my mind,” he said. “To me, this is 5,000-1 Leicester territory. I don’t understand it whatsoever: they have some decent players. Why on Earth are they where they are? It’s nonsensical. There’s at least 5-10 teams worse than them.”

The Blues still have their safety in their own hands as they take on Crystal Palace on Thursday before the final game of the season against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.

Crazy

There’s no reason why the club should be in the position they’re in considering the amount of talent they have in their squad, yet here they are.

There’s been a total lack of good performances for much of the season both individually and collectively as a unit, and it’s simply not good enough.

The team have seemingly failed to take heed of multiple warnings throughout the campaign and now find themselves heading into the final week of the campaign still potentially heading to the Championship.

Only a select number of players can actually keep their heads up and be proud of themselves this season, and many decisions need to be made about the future of big parts of the squad.

Firstly and most importantly though, they need to churn out two more results to ensure they’re a Premier League side next season.
