Frank Lampard gets excuse ready ahead of Everton v Crystal Palace

Everton will face Crystal Palace in a must-win game in the Premier League on Thursday (17 May).

This is a game, the Toffees need to win. They had a chance to secure Premier League safety with a win against Brentford but they threw it away.

The Toffees have another chance here. It will be too risky to take it to the final game against Arsenal at the Emirates, considering the club’s poor record away from home.

However, Frank Lampard appears to have already an excuse lined up if the Toffees fail miserably in their battle for survival.

The Toffees boss said to Evertonfc.com: “We’ve had a lot of injuries, you can’t overestimate how much it can affect you to have three frontline centre-halves out.

“We’ve seen clubs miss their centre-halves and results change dramatically.”

Injuries can’t be an excuse. The manager has to find a way to cope with injuries and illness.

It baffles really that he is already moaning about it, albeit subconsciously.

Michael Keane missed the game with illness, while Ben Godfrey is still not fully fit yet. Jarrad Branthwaite picked up a red card, while Yerry Mina is still injured.

The situation is far from ideal. In midfield, Fabian Delph is also doubtful.

However, Lampard appears to point out the injury crisis at other clubs and how it affected them. It gives a bad impression he is shielding himself if the results go the other way on Thursday.

The Toffees are likely to welcome Michael Keane back for their Premier League clash against Palace, while Godfrey should be ready as well.

Keane has not been consistent with his form, so Lampard might look to go with Godfrey alongside Mason Holgate.
