Richard Keys moots Everton behind-closed-doors punishment after ugly scenes v Crystal Palace

Richard Keys has mooted severe punishments for pitch invasions after Everton beat Crystal Palace to secure their Premier League status for next season.

The beIN Sports host suggested that closed-door bans may be the way forward after there was yet another fan altercation, this time with Patrick Vieira lashing out.

Keys did take time to congratulate Frank Lampard for his achievements but also unleashed on Rafa Benitez for the mess he had left behind at Goodison Park.

Writing on his personal Twitter account, Keys mooted potential punishments for the Toffees after what took place at full-time on Thursday evening.

“Chuffed to bits for Frank Lampard & his staff [at] Everton,” he wrote. “He inherited a mess from his predecessor.

“I understand totally the celebrations but we need to be careful about these pitch invasions. Some sympathy with Vieira but you can’t do that. Closed-door bans might be the answer.”

Perspective.

This was a game to keep us in the Premier League after a season of complete shock.

There were bound to be some celebrations on the pitch, and although some took it too far, most of those were respectful and just went on to be with the players.

Vieira didn’t need to kick out, but the clueless fan also didn’t need to get in his face for no apparent reason with no rivalry whatsoever between the two.

Hopefully, there will not be any punishment and there are just stricter stewarding put in place to avoid invasions happening in the future if they are that much of an issue.

The police and stewards did nothing to stop this, so maybe a review into that is more useful at this stage.

We all breathed a huge sigh of relief last night, and we can go into the final game of this Premier League season at Arsenal without that huge doubt hanging over our heads.

Let’s hope for no punishment.
