Everton winger Andros Townsend regrets ‘nothing’ in celebrations v Crystal Palace

Everton finally secured their Premier League safety on Thursday (19 May) with a stunning comeback victory against Crystal Palace.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s winner to make it 3-2 to the Toffees sparked unbelievable scenes at Goodison Park as fans poured onto the pitch in sheer jubilation at a season-defining goal going their way.

It wasn’t just fans though that were going mental as the England international found the back of the net, injured winger Andros Townsend also couldn’t contain his elation as he hopped onto the pitch in his casual clothing.

A video of him limping in delight was shared on Twitter and the winger admitted that even though it might have been against his doctor’s orders, he had no regrets.

“I regret absolutely nothing,” Townsend said via his personal Twitter account in response to the video.

The victory takes all the pressure off Everton’s final game away at Arsenal, leaving Burnley and Leeds United to fight it out between them for their own Premier League safety.

Thursday evening was the sheer epitome of football and a great example as to why we call it ‘The Beautiful Game’.

After a torrid first half, Goodison had quietened down a touch but Michael Keane’s goal certainly lit the fire beneath the Everton fans and from that moment on the noise was biblical.

Everton

It definitely pushed Frank Lampard and his side onto another level of performance which ultimately proved too much for Patrick Vieira’s side who crumbled towards the end of the game, opening the door for the Toffees to take victory.

As amazing as the scenes were though, we can’t escape the shameful acts of a couple of fans who entered the field of play at the end of the game, only to target the Eagles manager who had done nothing to provoke them prior.

Football needs a very big crackdown on incidents like this and if it means collective punishment against the club or fans (points deductions, no fans at all etc.) then so be it.

In other Everton news, talks are set to commence between the Toffees and a European club over the current loan agreement for a 22-year-old outcast on Merseyside.
