Alan Shearer brands Everton finances a ‘mess’ ahead of ‘tough’ summer transfer window
Alan Shearer has outlined major problems for Everton in the summer transfer window, branding their finances a “mess”.
The Toffees secured Premier League safety in their penultimate game of the season against Crystal Palace meaning they could take their foot off the gas in their 5-1 defeat to Arsenal on the last day of the season.
With the Blues safe, all attention now turns to strengthening the squad as Frank Lampard looks to mould the squad to his image.
However, Shearer believes that with the Blues’ Financial Fair Play concerns, it is going to be a difficult summer.
He told Match of the Day: “It is so uncertain with Everton because of the Financial Fair Play.
“Their finances are a mess and we are not sure yet whether they can strengthen – they have got the new stadium also that has to be financed.
“It is going to be a tough summer for Everton.”

It is so funny to see everyone more concerned with Everton’s FFP issues now that they are safe from relegation.
Leeds and Burnley have threatened legal action since the Blues guaranteed their safety and now Shearer is using that to put a negative spin on how the club will look to move forward.
Make no mistake, the way this club has been run of late is a complete joke. It is a surprise that Farhad Moshiri is still in the job and you get the feeling this is his last crack at making the Merseysiders successful before he calls it a day.
If Everton are confident that they have done everything by the books – you would hope they are right and can go about their business as they please in the summer.
Cutting the deadwood from this squad might be a way to further improve the financial state of the club.
It is also very necessary for the quality of football too with far too many passengers that simply aren’t good enough at the club.
