Everton forward Cenk Tosun confirms he is leaving the club this summer

Everton forward Cenk Tosun has confirmed that he is set to leave Goodison Park in the summer.

The 30-year-old Turkish striker has a contract at the club till the end of this month, and the Toffees have decided not to renew his deal.

Tosun spent four and a half years at Goodison Park, where he managed 11 goals in 61 games.

He posted an emotional message on Instagram: “Dear Blue Family, I had a great four and a half years as a member of your family with ups and downs and now unfortunately it is time to say goodbye.

“I would like to thank my coaches, teammates, staff, board members, and the chairman I had worked with.

“And of course, I would like to thank our fans. I loved it to be an Evertonian and I will always be an Evertonian.

“I have nothing but love for this club! This club has so much potential and I am sure soon Everton will have better days and when the day comes I will be celebrating as well.”

Farewell

Tosun is a good player but he was at the wrong club at the wrong time.

The striker initially struggled to cope with the pace of the league, and later struggled with injuries.

From Carlo Ancelotti to Rafa Benitez to Frank Lampard – no manager has shown faith in him, and that’s really frustrating.

Even when Dominic Calvert-Lewin was absent, managers opted for other options, leaving him in the cold.

He gradually became a fringe player at the club. This season, he has managed only three appearances, of which only six minutes of action has come in the Premier League.

Everton

During his stay at the club, he went on loan at Crystal Palace and Besiktas but couldn’t make it count.

In 2018-19, he managed 29 games for the club, where he scored four goals, and that’s his best return so far in an Everton shirt.

He now leaves the club as a free agent. There won’t be any shortage of admirers. He is likely to move to Turkey, where a return to Besiktas cannot be ruled out.

However, he may need to lower his wage demands. He still has got a lot of football left in him, and hopefully, he picks the right club for his next move.
