Frank Lampard to exploit Chelsea links for Everton summer transfer window

Frank Lampard is likely to attempt to bring players in from Chelsea during his first full Everton transfer window according to Liverpool Echo’s Joe Thomas.

The club secured their Premier League survival in the penultimate game of the season, allowing them to finally move forward with summer transfer plans.

But while financial constraints remain, and form the basis of the threat of legal action from Leeds and Burnley, the Toffees boss is tipped to make the most of his long history at Stamford Bridge to do affordable business this summer.

In his Liverpool Echo Q&A Thomas replied to one question about the transfer policy by saying: “Lampard has proven to be a good manager for promising young players and he will likely look to see whether Chelsea are open to any business – they have a number of players now who have a good claim to first team football but are unlikely to get that at Stamford Bridge.”

In response to another about financial restraints and potential loans he answered: “Lampard is likely to make the most of his Chelsea links and they have a huge loan system, so I would be surprised if he doesn’t look to Stamford Bridge to see whether he can pick up one or two promising players, either on loan or permanently.”

Benefit

So much of what the manager is able to do will depend on who he can move on, as he embarks on an overhaul in the hopes of avoiding a repeat of this season’s mess.

The reduced spending power is inconvenient but in the circumstances he may be the best person for the job.

Not only has he got an excellent relationship at Chelsea, although pending their takeover he may be dealing with different decision-makers in west London, but his time as Blues boss was most fruitful when working under a transfer ban.

He is credited with the emergence of stars such as Mason Mount, Reece James and Tammy Abraham, so may be best suited to working with developing talent.

Chelsea are renowned for having an army of players out on loan, and with new rules set to limit that in the summer they are sure to be more selective with who they lend to.

Lampard logically would be near the top of the approved list for temporary deals, and should be well positioned if permanent moves are available as well.

There is of course no guarantee that there would be an influx of talent from the – for now – European champions, but in the circumstances it seems an obvious first move.

In other Everton news, the club are also apparently interested in a £30million striker this summer.
