Everton want to sign Newcastle United star Miguel Almiron amid Eddie Howe development

Everton and newly-promoted Fulham are in hot pursuit of Newcastle United attacker Miguel Almiron, according to Roberto Rojas.

Writing via his personal Twitter account on Tuesday (24 May), the NBC Sports journalist reported that Eddie Howe and the Newcastle leadership do like the 28-year-old Paraguay international.

However, “should a transfer be needed”, Everton, Fulham, Sevilla and Napoli are teams who are interested in signing the Magpies’ attacking midfielder.

No, thanks

Almiron might have shown some improvement under Howe’s leadership at St James’ Park.

However, for the most part of the Paraguayan’s spell on Tyneside, he’s been absolutely hopeless.

While the ex-Atlanta United ace possesses mean pace and superb dribbling ability, he really lacks in an end-product.

In 123 appearances across all competitions since joining Newcastle in January 2019, Almiron has scored 14 goals and supplied five assists.

Only 12 of those goal contributions have come in the Premier League.

Howe is clearly a big fan of Almiron.

As quoted by Newcastle World on 15 April, the Toon manager hailed his “excellent” attitude and said that he offers a different dimension to his attack.

But Everton should surely be able to see that signing players who’ve failed at bottom-half Premier League sides is a bad route to go down.

We want to be challenging for Europe.

How are we going to get to that stage if we sign players like Almiron? Let’s face it, he’s spent all but the last few months of his time in English football being utterly average and trying to avoid being relegated.
