Michael Keane could lose position if Everton sign James Tarkowski

Everton are reportedly leading the race to sign James Tarkowski in the summer transfer window with his Burnley contract coming to an end.

According to The Daily Telegraph, the Toffees have made a move to sign the defender on a free transfer.

They have already offered him a contract worth around £90,000-a-week, as Frank Lampard wants to bolster his defence following a dreadful campaign.

The 29-year-old is yet to make a firm decision on his next destination, but Lampard feels he is the perfect player to strengthen his defence.

Tarkowski has been colossal at the back for Burnley, and he would be one of the first-choice defenders at the club should he join.

However, in all probability, Lampard won’t be recreation the partnership of Tarkowski and Michael Keane. In fact, Tarkowski is likely to push Keane down the pecking order at the club.

Of the four defenders Everton have, Yerry Mina is likely to depart. He is a brilliant player but Lampard can’t build a team around someone who doesn’t stay fit at all.

Keane has been a regular member of the side, and has produced some top performances this season. But he is inconsistent, and his ghastly errors have hurt the Toffees badly.

When fit, Ben Godfrey should be a regular starter. Mason Holgate has impressed towards the end of the season, and he should be the back=up option.

It won’t come as a big surprise if Lampard decides to cash in on Keane, provided there’s a good offer on the table.
