Sky Sports pundit backs Frank Lampard to navigate transfer window if he has to sell Everton star

We’re delighted to welcome former Everton striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week the former Toffees captain will be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Goodison Park…

Kevin Campbell accepts that Everton may have to sell a big name star to back Frank Lampard in the transfer market due to limited finances.

Demarai Gray was the only player to arrive for any fee this season, just £1.7million (Sky Sports), and with spending power expected to remain diminished it may be a matter of selling to buy for the Toffees boss this summer.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison have both been the subject of sustained transfer speculation throughout the relegation battle and Sky Sports pundit Campbell has backed the manager to navigate that situation if necessary thanks to his previous history.

On the prospect of having to lose a big name to fund summer moves he told Goodison News: “Yeah it might be, and if that’s the case that’s the case.

“But listen, that’s all part of management these days, all part of management.

“So if you have to sell one and go out and get some younger players in you do.

“Frank Lampard’s been around the block. He’s managed in the Championship as well.

“So he knows what he’s doing.”

The former Chelsea boss so far appears to want to keep hold of the two attacking stars, and goalkeeper Jordan Pickford, but they are the three who would command the biggest fees if he chose to let one go.

He is sure to want to make additions to his squad, so if he needs money to do that he might have to find it himself elsewhere in the squad.

But he has operated under a transfer ban before, and in the second tier, so it shouldn’t be alien to him, and his worst season as a manager came after a major spend at Stamford Bridge so it could even be a good thing that he is forced to work on a tight budget.

In other Everton news, the Toffees want a Premier League striker that a rival management loves, but doesn’t look like value for money.
