Everton academy changes could see loan link with Tranmere Rovers

Everton could look to use their connections at Tranmere Rovers to form a local affiliation with the Super White Army, according to The Athletic.

This comes after a recent strategic review by the club and a reshuffle of their academy staff positions which will see the Under-23s side be led by a head coach rather than a manager.

The decision has been made in a bid to have all of the Toffees’ teams playing a unified style which will, in turn, make the pathway from the academy to the first team a smoother ride for the youngsters at Finch Farm.

Another part of the reshuffle will be the appointment of a loans manager and Everton could go to the other side of the River Mersey and speak with former player James Vaughan, now sporting director at Tranmere, about potentially creating a link which allows the Blues to send youngsters on loan to Prenton Park.

Overdue

Why a link like this hasn’t already been set up is a baffling question to ask because why wouldn’t you want a place to send youngsters in their learning process where they can still get league football?

Tranmere are a club that will fight towards the top end of League Two next season and there are players in the current Under-23s side that will be able to help them achieve their goals if they get given the chance.

Everton

We’ve seen Anthony Gordon break into the first team this season and be one of our best players and who is to say that another player like him isn’t in the current crop of teenage talent already.

Frank Lampard knows the benefits of going out on loan and getting to play proper competitive football every single week so he will be keen to make this happen as will a number of the players who have been solely playing academy football in front of nobody throughout their careers so far.

In other Everton news, Lampard might not have the big budget he desires this summer as the club look to balance the books after years of overspending.
