Everton likely to let Fabian Delph leave for free this summer

Everton are reportedly unlikely to hand Fabian Delph a new deal after his current one expires in June.

According to 90Min, Cenk Tosun and Jonjoe Kenny are the other two players who will also be allowed to leave the club on a free after the expiration of their deals.

Delph, 32, has featured sparingly for the Toffees this season and the club are understood to be keen on getting him off the payroll this summer.

Two of the three aforementioned players had become liabilities to the squad and the club failed to find a suitable club for them.

However, they’ve ended up taking the loss on them and will pay them their wages right until their deal runs out.

Both Frank Lampard and Rafa Benitez would have liked to use Delph more, given the lack of options in the middle of the park.

But, as expected, the former Manchester City player was often injured and unavailable for selection.

Due to him being on the wrong side of 30, one couldn’t even expect him to return to fitness quicker and it was a colossal mess all campaign for him.

Hopefully, the club do not make such senseless buys in the future as they need to move on from their previous model.

Kevin Thelwell should oversee an overhaul of the first-team squad and we’re expecting big changes in his first summer in charge.

Delph is unlikely to be ever spotted in an Everton kit again and that should be seen as a step taken in the right direction by the club.
