FC Barcelona put £17m price tag on Memphis Depay amid Everton links

Everton now know the price they will have to pay for Barcelona attacker Memphis Depay if they want to sign him this summer.

According to Spanish media outlet Sport, the Catalan giants have priced the 28-year-old Dutch international at £17million as they look to build funds so they can buy Leeds United winger Raphinha among other summer targets.

The same media outlet reported of the Toffees’ interest in Depay a few days ago after Super Deporte had revealed that Everton had enquired about him back in April.

Arsenal and Newcastle United are also keen on bringing the Dutchman back to the Premier League after a less than successful spell at Manchester United under Louis van Gaal saw him leave Old Trafford for Lyon.

Barcelona also want to bring in Robert Lewandowski from Bayern Munich as well as Marcos Alonso from Chelsea so they need to sell some players to help balance the books at the Nou Camp.

Be patient

There is no doubt that Depay is a very talented player and someone who could make a big impact at Goodison Park should he join the club but we shouldn’t rush to make things happen.

Firstly, we need to see what the future will hold for Richarlison who plays a very similar game and position to the 28-year-old and no matter what you do, you can’t have two left-wingers on the pitch at the same time and be successful.

Should the Brazilian leave, however, then Farhad Moshiri should act quickly to cough up the £17million required because Everton will struggle to find a better player for the same or less money in that role.

The question would still remain though if Depay actually wants to give up the sunny shores of Barcelona for the banks of the Mersey to play for a club that only just survived by the skin of their teeth last season.

He already knows the draw of the Premier League but he will need to see proof of improvement before he decides whether to make the move and that is still a good distance away.

In other Everton news, a big behind-the-scenes change could be about to befall Goodison Park with a local affiliation potentially in the works.
