Sky Sports pundit confident Everton secure amid legal threat from Leeds United and Burnley

We’re delighted to welcome former Everton striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week the former Toffees captain will be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Goodison Park…

Everton are “fine” amid the threat of a legal challenge from Leeds and Burnley as “serious people” won’t have made a mistake says Kevin Campbell.

The two relegation rivals, of whom it was the Clarets who ultimately went down, have threatened the Toffees with a claim based on their financial losses over the past three years far exceeding the permitted levels.

But the Premier League appears happy that the amounts the club has attributed as a Covid-19 write-off and other allowed expenses brings them down to a permitted level, and in that context Sky Sports pundit Campbell is confident that whatever the other teams do it won’t be a risk to Everton.

Speaking exclusively to Goodison News he explained he wasn’t worried about the prospect, saying: “No. They haven’t broken it [profit and sustainability rules].

“You’ve heard the narrative. They’ve been working with the Premier League on it and they’re fine, so if Burnley want to do that no problem, be their guest.

“Everton aren’t bothered about that. These are serious people now so they’re not going to make that mistake.

“Stuff can get written off and all that kind of thing, so it puts them within the boundaries.

“I don’t see it happening.”

Before the last game of the season it emerged that the pair were gearing up for a challenge, and appeared to want to bring the top flight safety that had just been secured into question.

Ever since the most recent accounts came out earlier this year both the club and the league have maintained there is no issue, but that hasn’t stopped mounting speculation over how that conclusion has been reached.

Former Toffees skipper Campbell is confident that the calculations will have been sound, and fans will certainly hope he is right over the coming weeks.

In other Everton news, Lampard is set to exploit his Chelsea links for Toffees transfers over the summer.
