Everton keep tabs on Brazilian midfield Eric Ramires

Everton want to sign Red Bull Bragantino’s midfield starlet Eric Ramires this summer, according to Brazilian media outlet UOL Esporte.

The 21-year-old has played all but one of Massa Bruta’s seven games so far this season as they languish in 13th in the Brazilian top flight and he only joined the club permanently over the winter.

But already, the Toffees are keen to put an end to his time at Bragantino and bring him across the Atlantic Ocean to the Premier League.

With his contract running until December 2026, RB Bragantino are not prepared to allow him to leave the club for cheap but Everton should be more than capable of paying whatever price they come up with.

His current employers paid just £1.7million for him in the winter, the same as we paid for Demarai Gray last summer, but Frank Lampard should expect him to cost a lot more with the Premier League money behind us.

The good thing about signing someone from the Brazilian league is that no one here really pays any attention to it so they won’t have any clue of how good, or not good, he is.

That should mean that he can be a real surprise factor when he first arrives, if he does, and his start to life on Merseyside could be stunning but the novelty will soon wear off.

His unknown ability to many on British shores is also a bit of a hindrance to us as it might take Lampard and his coaching staff some time to find out what he is really good at and what he can’t do so well.

There is no question that this move would be a risk and one that could backfire but he is still a very young player who has the potential to reach great heights with the right people around him.

Everton could be the environment where he truly blossoms and that would be fantastic for us if so but it could also be the place where he flops badly and heads back to Brazil a failure.

In other Everton news, a £17million price tag has been put on one of the Toffees’ summer targets as the selling club look to create budget for new players.
