Everton pursuit of £30m Keane Lewis-Potter shows change in direction

Everton are reportedly in the hunt for young Hull City winger Keane Lewis-Potter [iNews, May 25], and that is the perfect news to start the transfer window with for fans.

So far in this transfer window the club have been linked with several young players that are keen to prove themselves in the Premier League, as well as some experienced aces that will cost minimal amounts.

James Tarkowski seems to be the priority target in defence, as Frank Lampard looks to add some quality to his back line but further up the pitch there seems to be a very different profile for targets coming into the club.

Brennan Johnson of Nottingham Forest has been tipped to make the move to Goodison Park [Daily Mail, May 26], while Lewis-Potter is a new name that has cropped up now for the wing position also.

Both players are currently plying their trade in the Championship and absolutely shining, while also being just 21-years-old.

According to the report in iNews, both Lampard and Director of Football Kevin Thelwell have changed tact for this summer from previous windows and are now targeting “young and hungry” players for the first-team.

After years of spending big money on experienced pros with impressionable names and getting next to nothing in return on the pitch in terms of performances, this seems like the perfect move for all.

Lampard has shown in the past that he has a great willingness to work with young players, using his Chelsea connections during his time at Derby and then utilising the academy brilliantly during his spell at Stamford Bridge.

Since coming to Everton though that has been less of a thing, as he relied on the experience of his squad to get them out of relegation trouble.

Now as he has a window to try and shape the squad in his own image though, it seems that preference of younger players with a point to prove and space to grow and develop has returned.

For the Toffees this can only be a good thing, moving away from mercenaries and dodgy agents to instead find players ready to explode and help the club move to a new level while being proud to wear the famous blue shirt.

In other Everton news, a Premier League club have dropped out of the race for one Everton-linked ace, leaving the Toffees front of the queue.
