Everton U23 midfielder Sebastian Quirk signs new one-year deal
Everton Under-23 midfielder Sebastian Quirk will remain with the Toffees for another 12 months having signed a new one-year deal on Friday (27 May).
The 20-year-old is a boyhood Evertonian and extends his stay at the club to almost 10 years after joining the club’s academy as an 11-year-old.
While naturally a midfielder, Quirk was asked to play as a right-back on a number of occasions throughout the 2021-22 campaign and he says he didn’t mind the challenge.
“Last season, I’ve liked where I’ve played, I really enjoyed it. It’s given me a lot of freedom,” he said on the Everton club website.
“I just want to keep working hard and it would mean the world to me to one day play for the First Team. My whole family are Blues so it would be for them as well, to make them proud.
“It would be a way of thanking them for everything they’ve done for me.”
Blue blood
We all saw what true Everton fans can do last season as we narrowly avoided the drop with just one game to spare and that was only of those in the stands.
With the sole exception of Anthony Gordon, not one of the other senior players could class themselves as a true Toffees fan but the passion of the crowd was enough to carry them over the line.

This isn’t a unique problem for us of course and most of the country’s top division sides will be worrying about the same issue but we have the potential to change the mould in that regard.
Quirk isn’t the only Everton fan in the club’s academy and if Frank Lampard really wanted to, he could field an entire side of supporters contracted to the Merseyside outfit.
It obviously wouldn’t be wise to do so and Quirk is still some way off the first team at this moment in time but as someone with blue in his veins, he’d be welcomed greatly by the Goodison Park faithful.
In other Everton news, Quirk could be battling for a place with this South American youngster who Lampard has taken a shining to.
