Richard Dunne says Everton will sack Frank Lampard under one condition

Sky Sports pundit Richard Dunne has tipped Everton manager Frank Lampard to be sacked if Farhad Moshiri doesn’t back him to assemble a good team.

The Toffees have all eyes on the transfer window as the former Chelsea boss looks to rebuild the squad after securing Premier League football for next season.

With six managers and several stand-ins since David Moyes departed in 2013 – Dunne believes the Blues need consistency in the position if they have any chance of success.

He told Express: “I think there’s just an overload of players that aren’t up to the standard of Everton.

“They got themselves out of it in the end and the manager deserves credit for that but there needs to be an improvement or the inevitable will happen and the manager will change again.

“For Everton to go forward they have to have that consistency in the manager’s position and hopefully they give Lampard a few quid to spend in the summer and he can assemble a good team.”

Spot on.

Everyone can see that changing the manager every two minutes is not the way to go and hopefully, Moshiri has learnt from that.

Time and time again has a manager been sacked after a bad run and the only thing that is doing is slashing the next manager’s hopes in half.

They are then forced to come into a squad built by several people, with no real clear vision or style of play.

It is impossible to change things overnight so the Blues chief just needs to bite the bullet and play the long game – which is what he seems to be doing with Lampard so far.

The former England international has had a fairly successful first half a season at the club but the real test begins next season you would imagine.

It is okay pulling out of the bag when your back is up against the wall but once you spend some money and start the season fresh – the expectation and pressure are a whole lot different.

They need to stick with Lampard in the long run.
