Allan hints at staying with Everton despite interest from Lazio

Everton midfielder Allan has revealed that he sees himself staying at the club despite entering the final year of his contract.

The Brazil international has been linked heavily with a move to Serie A giants Lazio where manager Maurizio Sarri is keen on working with the same player whom he has worked in the past, according to Goal.

Allan was quoted in a report by Lalaziomonoi.it where he revealed that he is “destined” to stay at Everton.

“My destiny as a professional footballer doesn’t change this summer,” he said. “I am destined to stay at Everton.

“I don’t have any problems with the new manager, nor do I have any problems with the Everton fans, I am fine in England and looking forward to the new season.”

Big role to play

When Allan was signed by Carlo Ancelotti in the summer of 2020 from Italian club Napoli in a deal worth £21.24 million, his role was expected to be the one to connect James Rodriguez and Abdoulaye Doucouré. He was said to be the midfielder that would contribute equally in attack and in defence.

However, things changed under Rafa Benitez as the Toffees became more focused on the defensive side of things which resulted in the 31-year-old having more responsibility on his shoulders while defending.

However, with Frank Lampard in charge, who wants his team to press high, Allan might have a similar role to what Jorginho had when the 43-year-old was in charge at Chelsea.

Allan has represented the Liverpool-based club in 57 matches across all competitions where he has managed to provide three assists and is yet to score a goal. All of those three assists came in the last campaign in 31 outings.
