Everton set for major blow with Duncan Ferguson exit on the cards

Everton will potentially suffer a huge blow if club legend Duncan Ferguson leaves amid reports that he could be offered the Blackburn job ahead of next season.

The 50-year-old has been a mainstay at the club for many years now having turned into a coach after his illustrious playing career at Goodison Park.

It came as a shock to many when ESPN journalist Adam Brown reported that Rovers are “strongly considering” the Scot for a managerial role at Ewood Park.

He said on his personal Twitter: “Blackburn Rovers strongly considering appointing Duncan Ferguson as manager.

“Everton assistant is prepared to leave.”

Managers have come and gone during Ferguson’s time at the club – he has even stepped in on several occasions.

Players have come and gone too but one thing has remained the same and that is Big Dunc being at the club.

Change.

The first team coach’s impact on the club can’t be put into words. He was an exceptional player who clearly understood the values of the club with how he played every time he put on the blue shirt.

Ferguson was one of the last of a dying breed and that influence on the current crop of modern players is so important.

It was a huge relief when Frank Lampard kept him with nobody else at the club being able to drill what it means to play for the Merseysiders – who is going to do that now because there aren’t many – if any – old schoolers still around.

Despite his rough and ready approach, he is a very caring person who likes to build personal relationships with all of the players and the impact he had on Dominic Calvert-Lewin during his time with the Toffees only echoes that.

It will be weird if the players arrive for pre-season and he isn’t there, setting the standards – hopefully, it doesn’t disrupt their rhythm.

With all that being said, it is a move that he truly deserves it could be a great move for him.

Who knows, he might use this experience to return as the Blues’ permanent manager in the future.
