Everton Women expert hails top award winner Gabby George as Player of the Season
We’re delighted to welcome Peter MacFarlane, member of the Everton Women Official Supporters Club, as our exclusive Everton Women expert.
The top award from the Supporters’ Club went to newly-recalled England defender Gabby George and Everton Women expert Peter MacFarlane shared why.
The 25-year-old isn’t far off a decade at the club now, and has blossomed into a crucial operator in the back line after injury and Covid-19 conspired last season to limit her to a single game.
She rebounded this campaign, putting in performances that earned her a recall to the Lionesses squad after a three-year absence, representing a major return to form, and MacFarlane had a few words to say in tribute for the Player of the Season.
Speaking to Goodison News he said: “After missing the majority of last season through injury, Gabby has fought back and been the epitome of consistency, commitment, and fight all the way through the 2021-2022 season.
“An incredible, incredible player who has never let us down, even when things have gone against us, Gabby’s performances have been top class.

“Recognised with a recall to the full Lionesses squad, Gabby has been a colossus for us and a worthy winner of our Player Of The Season Award.
“Gabby, Gabby George”.
As with Hanna Bennison young player pick, George also won the top prize at the official club awards and told the club website: “At this point last year, I had just come back from injury after rupturing my ACL. There are a lot of people behind the scenes who deserve credit for this award as, with their help, I feel I’ve come back even stronger.
“Our supporters deserve immense credit as well. Their support has been fantastic this season and they’ve been our 12th player when it’s mattered most.
“This is a fantastic club, and we will do everything in our power to come back even stronger next season.”
It is hard enough to come back effectively from a serious knee injury when returning to serene and positive circumstances.
But in the backs-to-the-wall slog that the season threatened to become at times it is even more of a testament to her ability that she managed to get back up to such a high level.
