Everton confident over future of Dominic Calvert-Lewin

Everton and Frank Lampard are determined to keep hold of star striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin this summer, according to the i Paper.

The 25-year-old suffered an injury-ravaged 2021-22 season, missing four months of the season with a broken toe after starting well and he only made 17 Premier League appearances as a result, scoring five times.

Despite the quiet season though, Newcastle United are interested in adding the England international to their side but the Toffees aren’t going to lie down without a fight.

They firmly believe that he will still be playing in the famous blue of Everton when the 2022-23 season begins even though there is a need to sell players to make funds available for Lampard to spend.

There are a number of other players they feel confident in being able to sell to create that cash which should allow them to keep Calvert-Lewin on Merseyside and away from the North East.

Ideal

Calvert-Lewin is one of the few players currently contracted to the Toffees who could genuinely get into any Premier League squad and most of the teams in the division would start him over their current number nine.

That is a huge reason to try our very best to keep him around because all we would do in selling him is massively improve a direct rival while hindering ourselves.

We clearly need to find funds from somewhere and it is going to have to come from selling players but unless they are bang average or youngsters, we need to sell abroad where possible.

We’re not going to come up against any side from Europe in a competitive game anytime soon so there is far less risk in letting them go away from the Premier League.

It might mean we get a few million quid less than if an English side were to sign him but we should, theoretically, make that back through our finishing position.

In other Everton news, Lampard wants to turn his attention to one of Ukraine’s best club sides for a very attacking signing this summer.
