Everton outcast Cenk Tosun close to Turkey return with Besiktas

Cenk Tosun is close to ending his time at Everton as he nears a return to the Turkish Super League with Besiktas, according to NTV Spor.

The 30-year-old is in the final month of his deal at Goodison Park and there is no sign of him extending his stay having only played twice in the Premier League during the 2021-22 season.

The Turkish international is therefore heading back to the club he left to join Everton in 2018 for £18million on a free transfer from the 2022-23 season onwards.

Tosun will sign a three-year deal with the top division side with an option to extend that for another 12 months as he has desired a Besiktas return for some time having only played 10 minutes of league football in the past year.

Good riddance

Even when Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison were injured and the manager had very few options up front, Tosun could not force his way into the side as the main striker.

Frank Lampard and Rafael Benitez before him both preferred Venezuelan unit Salomon Rondon to the Turk which really spelt the end of his time in the Premier League.

He was even the subject of a loan bid from Hull City in January, according to Fanatik journalist Gokmen Ozcan, but the 30-year-old rejected the offer to stay at the Toffees’ Finch Farm training ground.

Another Turkish media outlet, Sabah, then reported that Tosun was demanding a whopping compensation fee of £800,000 to see his contract ended early so he could go to Besiktas in February but the club refused.

But this saga looks set to finally be over and good riddance too because Tosun will go down as one of the biggest failures of our recent transfer business and we need to stop this kind of flop from happening again anytime soon.

In other Everton news, a new three-year deal has been offered to his Finch Farm-educated defender who was out of contract this summer.
