Christian Eriksen is perfect replacement for Everton ace Gylfi Sigurdsson

Everton have the perfect replacement for Gylfi Sigurdsson after The Mirror reported the Iceland international is set to leave the club ahead of the 2022/23 campaign.

The newspaper reported in their print edition (June 3, page 56) that the playmaker will leave the Toffees after a controversial season, leaving behind his big wages.

Frank Lampard could plug the gap that the attacking midfielder will leave in the squad with Christian Eriksen after The Mirror reported the Blues’ interest in the 30-year-old.

Sigurdsson has been on the decline for several seasons now and, admittedly, it is a risk replacing him with a player as old as the former Tottenham star but him being available on a free and potentially leaving Brentford once his contract expires – he could be a complete steal.

Gamble.

Many would say this is a massive risk on Everton’s part and you can understand that given his age and lack of playing time over a prolonged period.

It came as a shock when Eriksen joined Brentford in January after collapsing on the pitch during the last European Championships.

Nobody knew how he would fare back in the Premier League after the incident – including Brentford which is why they only tied him to a half a season deal and what a mistake that was.

He completely transformed the west Londoners upon his arrival – proving he still has what it takes to perform at the very highest level.

A host of clubs are now in the hunt for the Denmark international – including Manchester United and Tottenham – and the Blues simply have to be at the front of the pack.

Singing a player of his quality for free is too good to turn down, especially when he plays in a position that genuinely needs improving on.
