Everton have last laugh over Liverpool, Jose Enrique fumes over incident

Everton have had the last laugh over Liverpool with former red Jose Enrique still fuming over a major Goodison Park incident that cost them the Premier League title.

Rodri blatantly handled the ball inside the box in Manchester City’s 1-0 over the Blues on February 26 but Paul Tierney opted not to give a spot-kick which at the time was a disgrace of a decision.

Frank Lampard’s side was still fighting tooth and nail for survival at that point and losing that game despite a brilliant performance amid their worst ever form was a huge blow.

It was also a huge blow for Liverpool who would have most likely won the league had the Toffees been awarded the stonewall penalty and gone on to take points off the Mancunians.

Fast forward to now, Everton will remain in the Premier League for the 2022/23 season and Jurgen Klopp’s side missed out on the title by one point – a perfect outcome for all Evertonians.

Focus.

The Blues have had their little laugh at the Reds – they were tipped by everyone to go on and win the quadruple and they ended up with only the FA Cup and League Cup.

It was a joy to watch them lose the title on the last day of the season and even better watching Carlo Ancelotti’s Real Madrid beat them in the Champions League final.

Everton

With that being said, all focus needs to switch to the Toffees and what they are doing next season rather than their noisy neighbours.

They want to be competing for glory rather than laughing at Liverpool when they don’t achieve it.

Everton are a huge club, one with a great history of winning trophies and being successful and they desperately need to get back to that.

Of course, it will take quite some time as Lampard looks to start the long-awaited rebuild over the summer but it is about time the Blues get back to where they belong laughing at others whilst barely staying in the league.
