Everton to complete signing for James Tarkowski on free transfer

Everton are expecting to complete the signing of Burnley defender James Tarkowski on a free transfer, and Frank Lampard wants three more signings.

Toffees boss Lampard made an early move for 29-year-old Tarkowski in this window, after he announced that he would leave Turf Moor at the end of his contract this month.

Now the Blues believe they have beaten Aston Villa and a host of other Premier League clubs to acquire his signature and Lampard is ready to move on to other targets, according to The Telegraph [June 7].

It’s believed that despite interest from other clubs Tarkowski was already leaning towards joining Everton and a deal is now expected to be completed.

Lampard also wants to sign another three players including a midfielder and potentially a striker with Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison’s futures up in the air.

If there’s one thing that Everton needed to do during this summer it was capitalise on the momentum of the end of the season and get business done early.

Tarkowski is a Premier League proven defender with great experience and also the physical qualities that are needed to play in a Lampard side.

He is comfortable on the ball but also dominant physically, able to be a threat aerially in both boxes as well as having enough pace to play in a higher line if needed.

It’s a huge boost to the club that they’ve been able to beat off other Premier League sides for his signature, while also getting it done quickly to be able to move on to fresh targets as soon as possible.

Tarkowski is an immediate upgrade on current options and Lampard now edges closer to building a squad that is in his own image, to play the way he wants and try to avoid another relegation battle.
