Frank Lampard will be gutted with Everton ace Salomon Rondon stay vow

Frank Lampard will be gutted after Everton forward Salomon Rondon’s latest vow to stay and fight for his place at the club.

The 32-year-old scored one Premier League goal last season in 20 appearances which is absolutely awful.

With his contract expiring at the end of the 2022/23 season, the smart thing to do would be to cash in for the Venezuelan and look to replace the flop.

Rondon told Bolavip: “I’m in good shape physically and I’m ready to continue at the highest level. I have one more year on my contract with Everton but I want to continue competing, I want to continue being important.”

Leave.

Make no mistake, Rondon certainly has the attitude of a Toffees player. Every time the forward puts on the blue shirt he runs relentlessly and gives his all for the team but that doesn’t hide the fact he simply isn’t good enough.

The Blues can’t afford to keep players around based on their attitude. Lampard needs to rip the dead wood from the squad and replace it with young, hungry players who can take the club forward and at 32, Rondon is hardly in the position to do that.

The striker was brought in by Rafa Benitez and that is probably the perfect summary of his time at Goodison Park.

There could be a small case for Rondon to stay amid the uncertain futures of key forwards Richarlison and Dominic Calvert-Lewin for him to be used as a worst-case scenario striker.

But that means he is taking up a place in the squad and on the wage bill when a youngster could easily fill that role to the same – if not better – effect.
