Everton favourites to sign James Tarkowski amid multi-club race - Hayley McQueen
Everton are favourites to sign James Tarkowski once his contract at Burnley expires, according to Sky Sports News reporter Hayley McQueen.
In a video clip shown on the Sky Sports Premier League Twitter account on Wednesday (8 June), McQueen reports that the Blues are in talks to sign the 29-year-old, who’ll be out of contract and available on a free transfer at the end of the month.
It is understood that Tarkowski is wanted by other teams but the Toffees are in pole position to strike up an agreement.
“Everton are in talks to sign former Burnley defender James Tarkowski, the 29-year-old centre-back whose contract ends this month,” said McQueen.
“[He] has attracted plenty of interest from a number of clubs but Everton, it’s believed, are favourites to secure his signature.”
Get it done
Everton need a defender like Tarkowski – so why not sign the man himself?
Tarkowski was a mainstay of Burnley’s time in the Premier League and we shouldn’t let one relegation lead to us moaning about signing a player who’s just gone down to the Championship.
Kevin Campbell told Goodison News on 26 May that Tarkowski has been an “unsung hero” of the Premier League at his time at Turf Moor – and he’s right.
Centre-backs very rarely get the praise they deserve and because Burnley were oft-criticised in the Premier League, players like the former Brentford man were ignored by the media despite a series of strong performances.
Tarkowski is an excellent defender.
If you were to picture an old-school defender in your head, they’d possess all the abilities that Tarkowski has and Everton are crying out for a centre-half who can win the aerial balls, get stuck in and really emphasise a no-nonsense approach to the game.
Let’s hope we get this done because there are bound to be plenty of other clubs offering deals to the soon-to-be free agent.
