James Tarkowski set to sign four-year deal as Everton move edges closer

James Tarkowski is expected to sign a four-year deal after completing a medical with Everton to sign with the club this summer, according to The Athletic [June 8].

Tarkowski is undergoing a medical on Merseyside today [June 8] according to 90min after accepting the offer from Everton that will see him move from Burnley at the expiry of his contract at the start of next month.

Lampard had identified the two-time capped England ace as a prime target to bolster his defence for the new season after narrowly escaping relegation in the 2021/22 campaign.

Now a deal has been agreed and the expectation is that it will be completed at some point this week, with a long-term contract sealed.

The deal will keep Tarkowski at the club until 2026 at least, as he prepared to leave Turf Moor after six-and-a-half years at the club and six in the Premier League.

Long-term

At 29-years-old Tarkowski is in the prime of his career and a four-year-deal for a free transfer makes a whole lot of sense as Frank Lampard looks to rebuild the squad in his image.

Tarkowski was reportedly a target for Lampard while he was at Chelsea, and is someone that will immediately bring quality and leadership to a Toffees squad that was bereft of both at points last season.

A four-year deal will see him become the centre-point of the defensive unit that the manager wants to build, and the club need to focus on bringing in a mixture of quality, experience and bargains for the new season.

The reported £90,000 per week wage is a nice bonus for the player too, who was said to be earning £60,000 per week at Burnley, and he will be among the highest earners at the club now.
