Everton owner Farhad Moshiri apologising is the ‘least he can do’ says Daily Mail journo Dominic King

Everton owner Farhad Moshiri’s message to the Goodison Park faithful is the “least he can do” according to The Daily Mail’s Dominic King.

Moshiri released an open letter to Everton’s fans on Wednesday [8 June] to apologise for the Toffees’ appalling 2021-22 Premier League season.

The newspaper’s Northern Football Correspondent felt it was the very least the Everton owner could do.

Talking on talkSPORT Breakfast [7:17, 9 June], King said: “Apologising is the least he can do.

“We need to be brutally honest and Everton celebrating survival is no cause for celebration.

“The club’s heritage and the money that they’ve spent, they should be in the top ten looking to move forward.”

He added: “Too much has gone has happened in terms of change and it’s time to get behind Frank Lampard and let him build.”

Good to hear from Moshiri

There had been a deafening silence around Goodison Park since the Toffees secured their Premier League survival against Crystal Palace.

So this message from Moshiri has been a long-time coming and will be welcomed by the fans of the club.

It is good to see that the owner has acknowledged the mistakes that have been made in the past, however, it is time for him, Lampard and Kevin Thelwell to actively prevent their 2021-22 campaign from happening again in the future.

Everton can never again find themselves in the same situation again after flirting dangerously close with the prospect of Championship football in the 2021-22 season.

The Toffees have got their transfer business underway with The Athletic reporting [8 June] that James Tarkowski has undergone a medical and is set to sign a four-year deal with the club.

It would be refreshing to see Lampard target some younger players in this summer’s window with a view to developing them, adding value, and then moving them on for profit.

It is a strategy that provides sustainability for the club and could benefit the Toffees in the long run.

With the amount of money spent in recent years, it is certainly something Moshiri and the club hierarchy should consider.
