Everton duo Frank Lampard & Kevin Thelwell meet to plan transfers

Meetings between Everton boss Frank Lampard and director of football Kevin Thelwell have already begun ahead of the transfer window, according to a report by Liverpool Echo.

The senior pair are looking to decide on a strategy for the Blues as the former Chelsea boss looks to rebuild the squad after the 2021/22 campaigns relegation nightmare.

With that being said, the first item of the duo’s agenda is expected to be determining which of the current players in the squad will remain for the 2022/23 season.

A large part of the Toffees’ wage bill is expected to be freed up with several players set to leave Goodison Park with their contracts ending ahead of the next term.

Despite being in a better financial position than this time last season when Rafa Benitez only spent £1.7million in the window, the Goodison Park outfit isn’t expected to spend big in the market.

However, that could change depending on outgoings with Everton’s squad still very much “bloated”.

Patience.

It is great to see Lampard and Thelwell sitting down together and seemingly discussing what this squad needs ahead of the 2022/23 campaign.

It seems as if these sorts of basics have been missing from the club for quite some time – actually coming together and creating a plan of action.

That seems crazy for a Premier League club and these things have undoubtedly been happening – despite it not seeming like it – but Farhad Moshiri has done his best to sabotage everything through terrible appointments at all levels and an unwillingness to listen to his staff.

Lampard and Thelwell are two very intelligent football men and there is no doubt this squad will improve under their watch.

For far too long, too many people had a say in the squad which has left it in the mess it currently finds itself in.

The duo need time and patience to whip it back into shape but it is something that they are more than capable of.
