Everton interested in another defender despite imminent arrival suggests journo

Liverpool Echo journalist Adam Jones has suggested that Everton could well be looking for further defensive additions regardless of James Tarkowski’s imminent arrival.

As revealed by The Athletic on 8 June, the former Burnley man has undergone a medical and is set to sign a four-year deal at Goodison Park.

However, Jones believes that the Toffees could well be on the hunt for another central defender.

Writing for the Liverpool Echo on Friday [10 June], Jones said: “Frank Lampard and Kevin Thelwell may still be on the hunt for another central defender to be added to the mix.”

Good to hear

As reported by Tuttomercatoweb on Wednesday 8 June, the Toffees are ready to let Yerry Mina leave the club this summer with the defender entering the final year of his contract.

With Lampard looking to completely overhaul his squad, it would be wise to focus on the defensive side of the game first.

Ultimately, any successful side is based on a solid base and the imminent addition of Tarkowski will certainly add some much-needed leadership to the Toffees back line.

Lampard has Ben Godfrey and Mason Holgate to call upon as slightly younger options but it would be good to see the Toffees’ boss bring in another quality centre half to add fresh competition to his back line.

Furthermore, having a variety of options defensively will allow Lampard to experiment with formations.

Hopefully, the signing of Tarkowski kickstarts a busy summer of recruitment at Goodison Park with the Toffees looking to avoid a repeat of their horror 2021/22 campaign.
