Everton will regret Gretar Steinsson exit as Tottenham near appointment

Gretar Steinsson left his role as Everton head of recruitment and development in December but he is now set to take on a new role.

According to The Athletic, the former Icelandic international is set to be appointed as Tottenham Hotspur’s performance director, a new role at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

There, he will work closely with the director of football Fabio Paratici as he casts his eye over both senior and youth performances in North London.

Steinsson joined the Toffees in 2018 from Fleetwood Town as a European scout but quickly rose to the role he held before he left Merseyside and that may be a move Everton comer to regret in the very near future.

Given his rise through the staff ranks at Goodison Park, you can immediately tell that he has a superb knowledge of the game from all aspects and he definitely benefitted the club while he was employed here.

We’ve seen since his exit a less than ideal season in both performances and transfer dealings which could be a real problem for us further down the line.

Spurs have clearly seen the good work he’s done for us over the past four years and acted quickly to bring him to the capital in a very smart appointment.

We have to start making similarly clever choices in the boardroom if we want any chance to keep our Premier League status for much longer because we will quickly fall into the depths of the Championship if we don’t.

Hopefully, the new fan-elected board will help put an end to the poor track record of incoming and outgoings at the top which will then filter down to the team.
