Tom Davies could face uncertain Everton future if Frank Lampard signs Harry Winks

This is going to be a massive season for Everton midfielder Tom Davies.

The central midfielder, who missed a chunk of last season with injuries, will have to prove himself to Frank Lampard in the pre-season.

He has a contract at the Merseyside club till 2023, and it’s going to be a decisive last 12 months for him.

Lampard is looking to bolster the central midfield areas this summer, which means Davies will have competition for places.

Fabian Delph will leave the club at the end of this month, while doubts remain over the long-term futures of Allan and Andre Gomes.

TalkSPORT journalist Alex Crook (15 June) said on Give Me Sport, that the Toffees are eyeing a cut-price move for Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Harry Winks this summer.

Spurs have already agreed a deal for Yves Biossuma and they are open to letting Winks go.

Winks is a fantastic central midfielder who is very good at ball retention and hold-up play. If he a like-for-like replacement for Delph, and brings a different quality in midfield.

Davies, on the other hand, is a typical box-to-box midfielder who takes the risk of carrying the ball forward.

He needs to impress in the pre-season so that Lampard can use him straight away, and then the club can potentially offer him a contract extension.

He has a lot to prove, with his future uncertain, especially if Winks joins the club.
