Everton must thwart Wolves approach for midfield ace Matheus Nunes
Everton might not have the transfer budget that a lot of their Premier League opposition have but they can still make waves this summer.
One player in particular that Frank Lampard is keen to bring to Goodison Park is Sporting Lisbon’s 23-year-old midfielder Matheus Nunes after a stellar season in the Primeira Liga [Foot Mercato]
The Portuguese side are set to remain stubborn over his £52million release clause which may well be out of the Toffees’ price range if they don’t sell some of their own star assets.
Now, though, Everton are facing some stern competition in the race to sign Nunes this summer as The Express report that Wolves are the latest side to get involved as they appear set to miss out on teammate Joao Palhinha to Fulham.
However, they appear to only be willing to spend £45million with a couple of add-ons which is unlikely to meet the release clause Sporting are trying to hold out for.
But we need to now keep a very close eye on what the Portuguese side says in regards to the supposed price Wolves are offering because we could swoop in and get him for cheaper than we seem to be being quoted.
After such a torrid season, this is the moment where we need to stamp our authority on the transfer market and remind some of the other Premier League sides that we are still a formidable force when we need to be.
Unfortunately, our frivolous spending over previous summers means we don’t have the same clout to wave about as other sides might unless we do sell a big name for big money but whether it is worth losing a key player to sign something of an unknown in Nunes is the big question that needs to be answered.
In other Everton news, the club are now searching for a new Loans Pathway Manager and have set a deadline for 1 July.
