Everton to make new midfield transfer priority once James Tarkowski deal announced

Everton are set to target a new midfielder as their next priority after completing a deal to sign James Tarkowski, according to Paul Brown.

The Daily Star journalist has suggested that any new deals could depend on players leaving Goodison Park before they set their targets and more importantly likely budget.

Frank Lampard is set to mould his squad in his first full transfer window in charge, but may still be “forced” to sell certain players before the beginning of September.

Speaking to GIVE ME SPORT, Brown suggested what work is to come at Goodison Park as business finally gets underway in the coming days and weeks.

“It may depend on who they sell or who they’re forced to sell,” he said.

“Certainly, they look a bit light in the forward areas. I think his main priority seems to be in midfield after getting Tarkowski over the line.”

Moving quick.

The Liverpool Echo has already reported that the deal for Tarkowski is done despite the lack of announcement, so eyes will now be elsewhere in Merseyside.

With the defence strengthened, the midfield is a clear area of concern given how much we struggled in there last season, with the departing Fabian Delph one of our better performers.

Lampard will be on the case of Farhad Moshiri and Bill Kenwright to get things rolling again, as they moved quickly to secure the signing of Tarkowski ahead of others.

With Donny Van de Beek returning to Manchester United and Dele Alli simply not working at all since coming from Spurs in January, we have to be smarter with who comes in.

Learning from mistakes will be a key motto going into the 2022-23 season both on and off the pitch, let’s hope we get the first stage of that right with our transfer business.

In other Everton news, a Sky Sports journalist has said the Blues should complete their first signing by the end of this week.
