Everton: Chelsea consider Richarlison bid, on hold until Romelu Lukaku leaves
Chelsea are considering a bid for Everton attacker Richarlison this summer but the move may have to wait, according to the Liverpool Echo.
The 25-year-old, who scored the winning goal against the Blues the last time the two sides met in the Premier League, is unwilling to sign a new deal at Goodison Park and is pushing for an exit this transfer window.
Stamford Bridge could offer him a fresh start with the club’s new owners keen to revolutionise Thomas Tuchel’s attack but there is one factor holding up any approach.
Chelsea are waiting for Romelu Lukaku to leave the club on loan with a switch back to the Serie A and Inter Milan, the club from which he was bought for £97million just 12 months ago, nearing completion.
Everton are thought to be asking for a fee upwards of £52million for the Brazilian international who has scored double figures in goals in three of his last four seasons on Merseyside.
Richarlison’s importance to Everton has become more obvious than ever recently with Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s injury and form problems but we can’t keep him captive forever.
He clearly wants to leave now and take that next step in his career which should take him from being just a squad player for Tite’s Brazil to someone who is almost undroppable if he keeps performing in bigger competitions.
We needed to produce a season that resulted in European qualification to keep him satisfied at Goodison Park but we couldn’t have been further away from that.
He is probably justified in wanting to leave because his talents are way beyond anybody else at the football club, even Anthony Gordon after a good year for the academy graduate.
We were mocked for spending so much money on him from Watford back in 2018 but we’ve been proven right ever since and if he does go this summer, he will leave the club as an icon and hopefully, he will get a decent reception if (when) he returns to Merseyside.
