Ben Jacobs: Newcastle want Everton striker Richarlison if they miss out on Hugo Ekitike
Newcastle are “considering a swoop” for Everton forward Richarlison should they miss out on Reims striker Hugo Ekitike according to CBS journalist Ben Jacobs.
The 25-year-old has been subject to intense transfer speculation with The Daily Mail reporting on 20 June that Chelsea, Tottenham and Arsenal are vying for his signature.
However, it appears that there could be a new contender for the Brazilian in Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United.
The Magpies are struggling to get a deal over the line for French striker Ekitike with negotiations stalling whilst the 20-year-old decides his next destination.
That has led the Magpies to discuss other options and CBSSportsGolazo journalist Jacobs believes Howe has turned his attention to Richarlison.
“There are a few clubs currently looking at him.
“Newcastle United are considering a swoop as well if they don’t get Ekitike.”
The Everton man is certainly hot property at the moment and that is a good thing for the Toffees.
Unlike his striker partner Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Richarlison is attracting plenty of interest and that could well start a bidding war for the Brazilian.
With Chelsea and Newcastle not afraid to spend big, they could well bump the Brazilian’s price up if they want his services.
This is good news with Frank Lampard and Kevin Thelwell looking to undertake a summer of change at Goodison Park.
A large transfer fee would go a long way in helping the Everton boss effectively add to his squad and turn the Toffees’ fortunes around heading into next season.
It seems unlikely that Richarlison will be at the club for the start of the 2022/23 campaign and it is hard to blame him for wanting to challenge himself at a higher level.
With the World Cup around the corner for the Brazilian, a move makes sense for all parties this summer.
