Everton re-enter race to sign Vasco Da Gama starlet Andrey Santos

Everton have re-entered the race to sign Vasco Da Gama midfielder Andrey Santos this summer to battle Paris Saint-Germain, according to Le10 Sport.

The Toffees did have an interest in the 18-year-old in January as UOL reported on 26 January that the race was between ourselves and FC Barcelona but neither club got a deal done before the window slammed shut.

The Catalan’s name is again mentioned in this latest report with Serie A side Genoa also in the hunt for Santos’ signature along with Everton and PSG.

Vasco Da Gama, who play in the Brazilian Serie A, are willing to listen to offers for their teenage sensation and an offer of just £6.8million could be enough to see them shake hands on a deal.

Santos has played nine games in the 2022 season for Vasco Da Gama with one goal to his name and he has even appeared for the Brazilian Under-16s side on five occasions.

Every football club needs to have at least one eye on the future and ensure they have the players capable of taking the club to the next level if possible.

But the desire to sign very young players with a high ceiling can’t take priority over the here and now of Premier League football regardless of the talent available.

We don’t really have nearly £7million to splash on an 18-year-old who has played less than a dozen senior games in a league far inferior to ours when we have so many issues to resolve in the team already.

Santos will not fill a hole left by anybody immediately should he sign on at Goodison Park and even though PSG and Barcelona are in the chasing pack, we shouldn’t allow that to take our attention away from what really needs to be changed and sorted on Merseyside.

It’s great to think about, but let’s leave this one and get the first team up to standard first.
