Everton target Jordan Veretout would be perfect replacement for Fabian Delph

Everton have reportedly joined the race to sign Roma midfielder Jordan Veretout – and he would be a fantastic signing for the club.

Italian media outlet Calciomercato reported on 21 June that the Toffees are looking to add the 29-year-old to their squad, but they face competition from the likes of AC Milan and Marseille.

Jose Mourinho is expected to make massive changes to his midfield this summer, and Veretout could be on his way out, with Roma demanding a fee of around £13m for the Frenchman.

Bolstering the midfield is necessary for the Toffees this summer. Fabian Delph is set to leave at the end of this month when his contract will expire.

The likes of Allan and Andre Gomes are also facing uncertain futures, while Tom Davies needs to prove a point to his manager after missing out on a chunk of action last season.

Veretout could be a perfect replacement for Delph, except that he is more agile and hardly gets injured.

He has made over 420 appearances since making his debut for Nantes in 2010 and has scored 56 career goals thus far.

The French international had a poor two-year stint with Aston Villa, and he could be tempted to make a return to the Premier League to complete his unfinished business.

He was a part of that Villa side that got relegated, but he has resurrected his career at Roma. Last season, he managed 14 goals and assists for Roma.

Capable of playing as a defensive midfielder, he is very good at picking the right passes (88.4% accuracy last season in the Serie A, as per Whoscored), and can add goals as well.

He has got a few good years left in him, and the Toffees can benefit from his vast experience. If they can lower the asking price, definitely he’s worth trying for.
