Three players Everton can sign to solve left-back problem
Everton are coming off the back of an extremely difficult campaign where they narrowly escaped relegation on the penultimate matchday, courtesy of that win against Crystal Palace.
In the ongoing transfer window, one of the areas the Toffees are eager to strengthen is the defensive unit after conceding 66 goals in the previous campaign, the fifth-highest in the league [Premier League].
In the defensive side of things, one of the areas manager Frank Lampard is extremely keen to strengthen are his full-back options with Vitalii Mykolenko having no competition.
Everton are one of the clubs to have been linked with a move for AZ Alkmaar’s young full-back Owen Wijndal, according to Der Telegraaf.
The 22-year-old had an exceptional season in the Dutch league where he scored a goal and provided 10 assists in 31 matches [Transfermarkt].
Juventus left-back Luca Pellegrini is another player to have been linked with Everton, according to Corriere dello Sport print edition.
The Italy international played 21 matches across all competitions where he provided a solitary assist [Transfermarkt].
Everton have been also linked with a move for Manchester City’s Oleksandr Zinchenko in the ongoing transfer window, according to Daily Mail.
The Ukraine international played 28 matches across all competitions for the reigning English champions where he provided five assists [Transfermarkt].
Out of all the three players mentioned above, making a move for Juventus’ Pellegrini seems to be the most logical one. He is someone who has played in a league where there is more focus on the defensive attributes of a player and is young enough to adapt to the Premier League.
On the other hand, Wijndal plays in a league where the quality is far inferior compared to the Premier League whereas Zinchenko will be the most expensive one and was not defensively as sound for Man City during his time at the Etihad Stadium.
